Pioneer Research Program,
Final Evaluation

Kan’s work here is remarkable. I haven’t taught graduate students, but I expect his work in this program is the sort for which one would hope for one’s graduate students. ... His is among the most impressive work I’ve had from a student in my over-twenty years as a professor. Kan is a special student and his research was nothing short of superb.

Kan does independent research at an extremely high level. He shows deep and thorough understanding of difficult material … and is able to make original contributions to long-standing philosophical discourse. … He is as strong a student as I can recall coming across in my years as a professor.

I have no doubt that he will thrive in the most rigorous scholarly environment and will be a valuable member of any intellectual community fortunate enough to have him.

CIS Research Program,
Final Evaluation

Kevin displayed very high-level work integrating the philosophy into the legal debate, which is not an easy task. Kevin easily earned an “A” for his presentation and for his class work leading up to the group project.

Research Mentorship Program, Reference Letter

I found his enthusiasm and genuine curiosity infectious; cliché as it might seem at first glance, I can attest without a shadow of a doubt or a shred of embarrassment—despite the considerable differences in our age and experience—that Kevin was able to teach me at least as much as I presumed to teach him over the course or our collaboration together.

His deep background knowledge regarding analytic philosophy, his genuine interest in questions regarding ontology and ethics, and his drive toward answering meaningful questions helped me to see my own field in a new light, and consider some of my driving research questions in different ways.

And yet, Kevin also possesses that other rarest of qualities: despite his formidable intelligence and the seriousness with which he approaches his work, he is humble, inquisitive, compassionate, and in possession of a genuine sense of wit and humor, making even the heaviest topics a delight to discuss and explore.

I do not exaggerate when I contend that, in my 15+ years’ experience as an instructor and mentor, Kevin is one of the finest students whom I have ever had the privilege to teach. I have no doubt that he will make a positive and tangible impact on the world; and, truth be told, I have no doubt that he already has.

GEC Research Seminar,
Reference Letter

Students were assessed based on their submission of individual assignments, their contributions to class discussions, and their work on a project in small teams … Kan performed very well on all of these. Overall, his performance in this program was exceptional with his final grade placing him in the top quarter of the class.

Summer@Brown, Final Report

Kevin continuously demonstrated knowledge in physics and philosophy exceedingly advanced for his age, and I very much enjoyed engaging in various high-level discussions with Kevin. More than any other student, Kevin showed no fear in asking sharp questions on the details and raising objections to anything that didn’t make sense to him, exemplifying a brilliant learning mind. At the start of the course, I encouraged all students to show such questioning of authority because I believe it is an essential part of critical thinking to become an effective learner, and Kevin was perhaps the best example of this mindset in the class.
